2010 National Main Street Conference
Billions of dollars in reinvestment, thousands of volunteer hours, hundreds of thousands of new jobs and new businesses, and thousands of revitalized communities – this is the Power of Main Street. So went the theme of the 2010 National Main Street Conference in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 2-5th.
This conference, attended by Main Street Falls City board members, Kristy Gerweck , Diana Orton and Main Street Falls City director, Cassey Whalen, gave members four days of educational and networking opportunities, daylong Main Street Four Point Approach® training and opportunities to network with colleagues who are experiencing similar successes and challenges in their communities. The 2010 National Main Streets Conference showcased and celebrated the innovative techniques and practices that make the Main Street Approach® one of the most powerful economic development tools in the nation. This was an opportunity to find real solutions to not only survive this economic downturn, but also find ways to position Main Street Falls City and our community to strive long after these difficult times are gone and forgotten.
Preservation-based economic development is not only essential to the success of Main Street; it is connected to issues now in the national spotlight – sustainability; smart growth; local fiscal investment and job creation; fostering small, independent and innovative businesses; embracing diversity; utilizing social media for grassroots campaigns; and so much more.
